DIFFERENCES IN SOME HEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS IN FOUR HERDS OF BULGARIAN MILK SHEEP BREED INFLUENCED BY CERTAIN ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the values of some blood parameters - erythrocyte count (RBC), hematocrit (HCT), hemoglobin (HGB), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular volume of the erythrocytes (MCV) and eosinophil leukocyte count (EOS) of four herds of sheep from the Synthetic Bulgarian Dairy Population (SPBM) reared at different altitudes, depending on their body condition score (BSC) and the presence of parasites. The research was carried out in different sheep farms of the Sofia region - the village of Ravnishte /R./ (391 m above sea level), the experimental base of the IAS- Kostinbrod /I./ (548 m above sea level), the village of Mirkovo /M ./ (715 m above sea level) and the village of Bosnek /B./ (940 m above sea level) in June 2022. From the four herds of sheep (age 1.5-7.5 years) representative animals were selected (from 58, 61, 17 and 34 animals, respectively) from which blood samples were taken. Body condition score was performed during sampling by one individual using an adapted system. Fresh faeces (total sample) were also collected for parasitological tests (coproovoscopy and coprolarvoscopy). Blood analysis was performed with a 5-Part-Diff Automated Hematology Analyzer.
The BCS of the SPBM sheep from the flock in B. (highest altitude) was significantly better than that of the animals from R. and M. in all three groups - in general for the herds (P<0.001) and in the groups with high (P<0.001 and P<0.01, respectively) and low (P<0.001) HCT. BCS of the sheep from the SPBM herd of I., given the absence of gastrointestinal parasites and slightly better nutrition with concentrated feed, is better than that of the animals from M. and R. in all three groups - common to the herds (respectively P <0.001 and P<0.05) and in the high (P<0.001 and P<0.05, respectively) and low (P<0.01 and P<0.05, respectively) HCT groups. The difference between B. and I. is also reliable, but only in the groups with high HCT (P<0.001) and in general for the herds (P<0.01). There were no significant differences in BCS between the herds in R. and M. between the three groups. The levels of HCT in the SPBM sheep from the herds in B. and I. in the group with high HCT separately were significantly higher than those of animals from R. (respectively P<0.05 and P<0.001) and M. (respectively P <0.01 and P<0.05). In the group with low HCT, the sheep from I. also had a significantly higher HCT than those from R. and M. - P<0.05. There were no significant differences in herds total HCT levels between the four SPBM sheep herds. The levels of HGB in the SPBM sheep from the B. and I. herds in the high HCT group separately were also significantly higher than those of the R. (P<0.001) and M. (P<0.05) animals. In the group with low HCT, sheep from I. have significantly higher HGB than those from R. and M. - P<0.05. The significantly higher number of RBC of the SPBM sheep from I. compared to those from R. stands out in the group with high HCT (P<0.001), which is the only significant difference. The results are similar for MCH, as a significant difference in the groups with high HCT is only between the SPBM herds in B. and R. - P<0.05. The same significant differences in the groups with low HCT, for MSN we found again between the herds in B. and R., B and M., I. and R. - P<0.001 and I. and M. - P<0.01. In the groups in general for the SPBM herds, there are again significant differences (P<0.05) between the animals from B. and M., I. and M., but also between those in R. and M. About MCHC in the groups with high HCT, significant there is a difference only between the SPBM sheep in I. and R. (P<0.05), in the groups with low HCT between the animals in B. and R. (P<0.05), and in the groups as a whole for the herds also between I .and R. (P<0.01) and B. and R. (P<0.05).
